The glass broke on a framed piece
If the glass on a framed piece breaks, bring the frame to the counter and we look at it with you. At Best Framing the glazing is replaced and the piece is fitted back into its frame, cleaned and closed up on the bench. No task is too small: a glass replacement is as welcome at the counter as a whole new frame.
Glass only, or more?
Keep the piece and replace what is around it: new glazing, a new frame, or both. What it needs is decided with the frame on the counter, because a glass replacement, a repair and a full reframe are different jobs.
- New glazing. The glazing is replaced and the piece goes back into the frame you own.
- A repair. Bring in a frame you already own, and what it needs is decided with it in front of us.
- A reframe. The piece goes into a new frame, designed with you at the counter and crafted by hand in our Costa Mesa warehouse.
Better glazing while it is open
With the frame apart, the new glazing can be UV-protective or museum-quality, chosen with you for the piece, so a repair can leave it better protected than it was. Regular clear glass keeps dust and fingers off; slowing the fading that daylight causes is the job of UV-protective and museum-quality glazing. What the glass is doing explains the difference.
Look behind the glass
An old frame is worth a look while it is apart. If the mats or the backing are not acid-free, acid burns a brown line into the edge of a print over a few years, and it is not reversible once it has happened. Our store is completely acid-free, mats included, so a reframe replaces those materials with acid-free ones.
It does not have to be valuable
“We had an old family triptych that was hanging in our home. The cord broke and it fell to the ground. It wasn't worth a lot of money, but it held sentimental value. Best Framing did an amazing job of reframing and fixing our picture,” Laura O. of Costa Mesa wrote on Yelp. Danny M. of Anaheim came in after struggling for some time to find glass replacements for frames: “My client is happy with her picture frame being fixed.”
What it costs, and how to start
It is quoted in person once we have seen the frame. There is no published price list, and the price follows what is being replaced. Walk in with the frame at 1671 Placentia Avenue, Costa Mesa, Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm or Saturday 9am to 1pm; no appointment is required. If it is too big for the car, call first; we can also arrange for pickup of large items to be framed. Tell us if you need it back by a date.
